Uya Mweya Mutsvene | Come Holy Spirit

Shona is one of the Bantu languages found throughout Southern Africa. It is spoken widely in Zimbabwe, as well as in Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana.

The song, Yakanaka Vhangeri (Praise the Lord Now Together) a traditional song from Zimbabwe, would be particularly suited as an opening or gradual ‘hymn’. Click here for a recording or here for the score and lyrics.

One contributor notes that most churches in Zimbabwe have a very strong link to their western ‘mother churches’ with the liturgy and style of worship mirroring the guidelines of these same churches but with an African twist. So Anglican, Catholic, Methodist etc services in Zimbabwe would share similarities with worship in other similar churches. The main difference being the language used and style of worship songs.
